Assessing a self-build

At the heart of every self-build file is the project assessment. Appraisal fees are the borrower’s responsibility, as are any progress assessment fees along the way. Keep in mind that all assessments must be conducted by appraisers designated by the caisse.

The appraiser will require the construction plan, cost breakdown, contractor quotes, and either the land purchase offer or the deed of sale if you already own the property.

Disbursements are released gradually as work progresses; accordingly, our appraiser will inspect your build at each financing stage. Each disbursement amount is then calculated based on the percentage of work completed.
